The Green Team at Jerry's

After months of going through our product inventory, we have put together a Green product program. Ask about our contractor program with special pricing for contractors. Carpet, carpet pad, linoleum, composition tile, ceramic, stone, wood, cork, bamboo, and countertops have all been researched. Mill representatives helped with research and training...

We have compiled information on each of the products and how they contribute to earning points for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design categories. Jerry's is committed to continuing our research and bringing the best products and education to our customers.

Some Easy Tips for Being Green

  • Screw in 5 compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) bulbs. If every American did this, the $3 billion in energy savings could light more than fifteen million homes per year and prevent greenhouse gas emissions equal to four million cars.

  • Have a gas utility audit. Your gas utility can do a low-cost home energy or home performance audit. They look at your entire home and recommend cost-effective solutions to reduce energy use and improve comfort.

  • Consider a switch to 100% renewable power. Ask for wind power or other clean renewable energy sources with your electric utility customer. The total cost premium can be less than one penny per kilowatt hour. Contact your utility for details.

  • Seal air leaks. One of the easiest fixes for saving energy and money on utility bills is to look for air leaks going into our homes and fix them. We can caulk and add weather stripping and add insulation around windows, doors, and light fixtures. We can get insulators to put behind our switch plates! This is often an overlooked source of air leakage and it is so easy to fix.

  • Increase the cleanliness of your air. Switch to products made with little or no volatile organic compounds (VOC). Keep this in mind for all of your flooring needs including carpet, padding, tile adhesives, vinyl, linoleum, wood flooring, and so on. This applies to cleaning, painting, staining, and caulking as well.
